Are online PDF tools safe for a document?
No online PDF tool is universally safe for every document or environment. A sensible decision depends on the document’s sensitivity, the security of the device and browser, installed extensions, the network, and whether the service processes files in the browser or on remote servers.
Start with the document and consequence
Classify the document before selecting it. Consider the impact of exposing personal, legal, financial, health, employment, authentication, or confidential business information, and follow any organisational handling rules that apply.
A low-consequence public document and a restricted record do not present the same risk even when the same transformation is required.
Assess the complete environment
Review the device and browser security, browser profile, installed extensions, operating-system controls, download location, network software, and connection you will use. A browser-local application cannot make weaknesses elsewhere in that environment disappear.
- Use a maintained browser and a device appropriate for the document classification.
- Review extensions and local software that can access pages, downloads, or network traffic.
- Check where both the source and generated file will be stored, backed up, or shared.
Check the service architecture and claims
Determine whether document contents are processed in the browser, uploaded for server processing, retained, logged, or shared with other providers. Read claims narrowly: PDFNova’s supported transformations run in the browser without sending document contents to its application server, but that boundary is not a promise of absolute confidentiality.
