How to add a confidential watermark to work documents for free
PDFNova's Add Watermark workflow is free and requires no registration. Choose the approved watermark text, pages, position, size, angle, and opacity, generate the marked PDF in the browser, and verify that the label is visible without hiding essential work content.

Choose the correct work-document label
Use the exact wording required by the organization or project, such as Confidential, Draft, Internal Use Only, Review Copy, Uncontrolled Copy, or Not for Construction.
Confirm which pages require the marking and whether the label should appear across the page, near a margin, or in another approved position.
- Do not invent a classification that conflicts with company policy.
- Confirm whether the watermark is informational or part of a controlled process.
- Keep the unwatermarked original in the approved location.
Configure and apply the watermark
Open Add Watermark, add the PDF, enter the approved text, and set the page range, position, size, rotation, and opacity.
Generate the output only after the settings make the label visible while preserving readability of the underlying document.
Review every affected page type
Inspect portrait pages, landscape pages, pages with dense tables, signature pages, drawings, and existing stamps. Confirm that the watermark is consistent and does not conceal information needed for work or approval.
Use a distinct output name so recipients can identify the marked version and its status.
- Check the first and last selected page.
- Check pages with signatures, totals, or approval stamps.
- Confirm the watermark text is spelled exactly as approved.
Limitations
- A visible watermark is not encryption, access control, digital rights management, or proof that recipients cannot copy the document.
- Organizational classification, legal handling, and distribution rules remain the user's responsibility.
