How to add page numbers starting on page two

PDFNova’s First numbered page control can skip the first physical page. Set it to 2, then set Start number to 1 if page two should display 1, or to 2 if the displayed label should match the physical page number.

Use Add Page Numbers

Set where numbering begins

Open Add Page Numbers and choose one PDF. In First numbered page, enter 2 so the first page receives no number.

  • Set Start number to the label that should appear on physical page two.
  • Choose plain numbers, Page 1, 1 of total, or Page 1 of total format.
  • Choose one of six top or bottom positions.

Adjust the appearance

Set a positive font size and a zero-or-greater margin. The margin controls the label’s distance from the selected page edge; preview the downloaded result for pages with unusual crop boxes or rotations.

Apply and inspect

Select Add page numbers and download the numbered copy. Confirm that page one has no added label, page two starts at the requested number, and the final label and total format are correct.

Limitations

  • First numbered page must be an existing page, and numbering then continues through every remaining page; arbitrary later pages cannot be skipped.
  • Added labels overlay the page and do not update an existing table of contents or printed page references.
